Healthy Choices

Jeff and I have made a decision to get fit, and we joined a family gym last week. While Jeff and I work out, Aaron and Caleb get to play in the nursery, and Jonathan gets to go to Kids' Club. It's great. Jonathan's activities include learning about fitness, swimming, playing with a computer fitness game, cycling on kid-sized exercise bikes, and practicing all kinds of sports. We work out everyday (Monday-Friday), and we plan to swim on Saturdays as a family.

We are also participating in a local "Biggest Loser" competition at our gym. Each week we weigh in with our trainer. At the end of the 3 month time period, the "Biggest Loser" wins a CRUISE! With both of us competing, our chances are doubled to win. Whether we get the cruise or not, we are excited about the accountablity the contest offers.

Not only have we started exercising. We have implemented a new diet also. We have been at it for a little over a week. I have already lost 4 pounds, and Jeff has lost 2 pounds. I'm not going to share my weight, but my goal is to lose about 50 pounds. Jeff's weight last week was 286 pounds (whoa!)-he gave me permission to share this. He is now at 284 pounds. His goal weight is 200 pounds.

Before you dismiss our weight loss as pretty small, let me explain the weekend we had. Jeff managed to shed pounds while he was out in Los Angeles, CA, with a constant bombardment of delicious food. Yeah, he gave in more so than he would have at home, but I am seriously amazed at his awesome willpower to not overeat! I stayed home with the boys, and my mom and Mammaw came to visit. We ate at Chick-Fil-A the first night. Everyone ordered ICE CREAM (my weakness), and I abstained! Saturday, my cheat day, I did my best to not eat too much. We took the boys to Chuck E. Cheese's (see pictures below), and I had not a bite of pizza. Instead, I just ate a small salad. Afterwards, I did splurge on some Maggie Moo's ice cream, but, hey, it was my cheat day. I really thought we did well, and hope to lose a lot more weight soon.

One of our biggest motivators is our boys. We really desire to model for them a healthy lifestyle. We want them to understand the importance of a good diet and exercise. Plus, Jeff and I need more energy to keep up with them and play with them. Here are a few pictures of our healthy dinner of broiled Tilapia fish, carrots, and salad last night, and our boys eating it up like candy!

Stay tuned for more updates of how we are doing. And maybe in a few months, we'll have some cruise pics to share! :)
